Introduction
At IBM, work is more than a job – it’s a calling: To build. To design. To code. To consult. To think along with clients and sell. To make markets. To invent. To collaborate. Not just to do something better, but to attempt things you’ve never thought possible. Are you ready to lead in this new era of technology and solve some of the world’s most challenging problems? If so, lets talk.

Your Role and Responsibilities
As a senior DevOps engineer, you will be integral to the process of invention and innovation. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional who enjoys optimising and scaling the application platforms to make them more efficient and to align with the CIO’s platform strategy. You will develop exciting solutions that change the way both IBMers and IBM clients work. You’ll work in a collaborative, welcoming environment where new ideas drive technological transformation. We work in small, cross-functional teams with big goals, so you will need to be adaptive and adept at clear communication. We strive to produce scalable solutions, and you will need to be familiar with how an automated framework helps drive them.

High-level job responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate experience in handling complex and diverse DevOps requirements and coordinating work with the junior DevOps engineers to achieve a common goal.
  • Leverage strong collaborative skills to define requirements, develop plans, and deliver iteratively to support our organisation’s mission.
  • Leverage strong analytical skills to understand the root cause of the critical issues occurring on the platform and provide technical direction for resolution of the issues.
  • Communicate and manage relationships with the CIO’s Platform and EDA development teams; provide guidance, mentorship, and direction as required.
  • Learn new tools, technologies, and processes for continuous improvement.
  • As part of a self-directed team, take ownership of activities and deliver them on time and with quality.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Above all, we value curiosity, teamwork, and a desire to learn. We are confident that if you possess the right attitude, work ethic, and skill set, you could succeed in the role, even if you do not meet every one of the requirements below.

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer.
  • Proficiency in DevOps concepts, CI/CD tools, and setting up CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading a group of junior Devops engineers in the team and driving outcomes.
  • Experience working on Z environments, primarily on zOS (mainframes), with a thorough understanding of the Z architecture and principles.
  • Proficiency in mainframe technologies such as PL/I, REXX, JCL, SQL, DB2, and OPC (batch schedulers).
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking and working as part of a global team. Adaptive to ambiguity and willing to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with different teams and document processes clearly.
  • Strong understanding and application of clean code principles and best development practices.
  • Quick decision-making capabilities to resolve critical technical issues occurring on the Z environment during daily operations.
  • Experience making continuous documentation improvements and maintaining clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies such as Python, Openshift, Kubernetes, Docker, and data workflows (Argo/Airflow).

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Good understanding of the current CIO initiatives with respect to the legacy platforms (such as Z) and ability to functionally manage the platform migrations when they occur.
  • Ability to quickly learn modernised platforms is an added advantage.
  • Understanding the basic concepts of ITSS compliance and security and being able to apply the security principles to the systems and platforms managed.
