The Director of the Evaluation Research Center, Watson Health will recruit, develop and lead an accomplished transdisciplinary group of research professionals who design, implement, and assess both formative and summative evaluation studies, initially regarding cognitive Oncology solutions. The goal of the Center is to become the industry benchmark for designing and carrying out rigorous research studies that will either influence further product development in response to insights gained or produce insights suitable for analysis, summarization, and publication in top-tier health, clinical and health informatics journals and professional forums. The multidisciplinary skills and experiences required will involve patient care, care delivery, health systems, biomedical informatics and biostatistics with previous extensive work in evaluation study design, implementation, and analysis regarding clinical decision-support technology. This professional will engage with key internal stakeholders and external experts, institutions and organizations to inform the quality and impact of the Center's research and resulting publications. He/she will develop the essential internal and external research and client partnerships required to execute the agenda, including both laboratory studies and those intended to be carried out in naturalistic (real world) clinical settings. The role also includes addressing research questions and concerns of cognitive research partners and collaborators. The Director will oversee collaborative processes leading to the seamless integration of rigorous evaluation in product design, development and implementation as well as the creation of high quality manuscripts, abstracts and presentations that involve the Center's research. He/she will support compliance with accrediting and certifying bodies and federal, state and local agencies on medical consent, IRB requirements, and ethical requirements in the rigorous, unbiased conduct of research and dissemination of results.
This VP and Director has responsibilities in three overarching areas:
· Provide informatics, research, and analytical expertise and leadership in study design and evaluation methods to advance the excellence and impact of the Center's activities on product quality and outcomes
· Lead the development of essential internal and external partnerships and collaborations as required to execute the Center’s research agenda
· Lead the creation of high quality manuscripts, abstracts, presentations and thought leadership pieces that describe the Center’s research in leading peer-reviewed health, clinical, and health informatics journals, conferences, and other forums
· Provide leadership and support to the Center professionals, assuring professional development, teaming and coordination that optimizes engagement, enthusiasm and commitment by team members
· Coordinate with the technical development teams on implications of formative studies that suggest the need for adjustments to the underlying decision-support technology or its interaction with users
· Coordinate with product and marketing teams to assure that studies are designed with their needs in mind and that the results of studies address client concerns

Develop Product Insights:
· Provide broad and strategic informatics and evaluation expertise to offering management and innovation teams to inform high value solution development/improvements and intuitive, seamless workflow design.
· Collaborate among quality management and product offerings teams to ensure quality and safety of solutions.
Execute Client Opportunity:
· Provide broad informatics and evaluation expertise for key customer engagements during use-case definition and solution design and implementation.
· Facilitate opportunities of collaborations by brokering trust and understanding among key industry stakeholders.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • MD or DO
  • At least 8 years experience working in a healthcare company in a variety of roles
  • Experience of Five or more years in applied clinical informatics, with a broad and deep understanding of major trends in health, health systems and care delivery, health economics, healthIT and industry workflow.
  • Five or more years of experience working in biomedical informatics industry in a variety of roles.
  • Five or more years of academic or industrial experience in clinical research, with a focus on study design, implementation, analysis and subsequent publication
    -preferably involving decision support.
  • Five or more years in a supervisory/leadership role, overseeing technical and evaluation teams and coordinating their activities.
  • Demonstrated success in building high quality research organizations.
  • Experience in informing design and development of innovative healthcare solutions using technology, data, and potentially new models of care.
  • Strong leadership, team building and people skills.
  • Leader, visionary, consensus builder, innovative, effective, ethical.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Doctoral training in biomedical informatics or closely related field would be preferred
  • At least 8 years experience working in a healthcare company in a variety of roles
