Job Description
IBM Research is seeking a Hardware Engineer with diverse skills capable of designing, developing and testing of new and custom electronic hardware, as well as control software (e.g. Labview).

You must be able to take high level architectural design input and implement that design in hardware. You should be proficient in both analog and digital design. Also, must have fabrication skills, preferably including printed circuit board assembly, as well as cabling fabrication, and chassis assembly. Proven testing and troubleshooting skills with the use of lab tools like signal generators and oscilloscopes. Understanding of ultra high vacuum systems is a plus. Experience in development of Labview or Matlab applications, and willingness to develop proficiency. Must be proficient in the use of CAD tools, for example, ConceptHDL schematic capture, OrCAD Capture or similar schematic capture tool. You should be able to generate netlists, resolve errors in report generation, and convert schematics from one tool to the other. Experience in PCB layout and tools such as Allegro a plus. Must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, but also be highly effective in a team environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related area is required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

This is a long term supplemental position.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • LabView, MatLab or other control system software-5 years
  • Design, develop and test custom electronics hardware (both analog and digital)-5 years
  • Schematic design CAD skills (e.g. Orcad, Cadence Concept)-5 years
  • Lab and fabrication skill in PCB design, assembly with surface mount electronics parts, and chassis and cabling assembly-5 years
  • Independent engineering, project management and teamwork skills


Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • TwinCAT control system software
  • PCB design (e.g. Allegro)
  • Proficient in both analog and digital design
  • Testing and troubleshooting skills
  • Firmware/microcontroller design
