The Director of Developer & Digital Business Group Communications will lead IBM’s strategy for communicating externally to the world’s developers and internally to the developers at IBM. Additionally, this role leads communications for IBM’s Digital Business Group, which includes digital transformation communications, and communications related to IBM’s engagement with startups, VCs and other organizations the company partners with to reach new buyers. You will be a strategic, innovative thinker, detail-oriented and expert collaborator who is able to conceive big ideas, and engage others in their execution and delivery.


Responsibilities include:
  • Strategic approach to positioning IBM as the leader helping developers achieve their goals
  • Focus on telling the technology story through media relations, social media, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Develop speaking platforms and lead a proactive speaking engagement strategy and execution for IBM senior executives
  • Serve as the trusted communications advisor to senior executives
  • Build and drive an internal communications strategy that engages IBM developers in the overall business objectives
  • Manage a team of experienced and talented external and internal communications professionals and help them succeed
  • Partner with strategic and corporate communications extended teams (employee communications, public relations, analyst relations, investor relations) and others to ensure message alignment in support of communicating effectively and authentically with developers
  • Participate in developing high quality content, and demonstrate expert understanding of complex technologies, products, and market challenges
  • Foster relationships with reporters and other influencers


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Impeccable written and verbal communication and storytelling skills
  • Passion for technology and developer challenges and opportunities
  • Strong knowledge of social media and understanding target audiences / trends
  • Highly experienced in developing and executing internal and external communications strategies
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with others
  • Media Relations and awareness of Competitor Landscape
  • Exceptional leader who serves as a role model for others
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • 8-10 years' experience in a Communications role at agencies and/or in-house
  • 3 years experience in technology or industry-specific topics
  • Demonstrated ability of advising C-suite level executives in a large and complex environment
  • Ability to write for different mediums with different content approaches, including long form articles, by-liners, speeches, tweets, blogs, videos, webcasts, etc.
