IBM Systems Group has openings for entry-level software engineers to develop, test, and support the operating system for IBM System i. IBM i is a highly integrated operating system which drives business success for our clients around the world. Integrated database, rock solid security, cloud solutions, mobile applications and business analytics are all hallmarks of IBM i.

We produce leading-edge technologies in parallel computing, cloud computing, virtualization, networking, and internet technologies. SW engineering tasks include: code design, writing, porting; testing and debugging; customer support; documentation and interface design and system and network administration.

As an intern, you will work with other IBM I development teams at our Rochester site. Ideal Candidates should have strong communication, analytical, and programming skills (for example: C/C++, Java, assembler, scripting, etc.) on different platforms. Candidates will have some coursework in fields related to Software Engineering and/or Information Technology (for example, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering).

Successful candidates will be comfortable working through all stages of the software development life-cycle from requirements, development, test and deployment using Agile, RAD and waterfall methods, and working in a dynamic collaborative environment requiring strong teaming skills with programmers, engineers, and scientists.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience using strong communication, analytical, and programming skills (for example: C/C++, Java, assembler, scripting, etc.) on different platforms.
  • Completed coursework in fields related to Software Engineering and/or Information Technology (for example, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering)
  • Basic knowledge or prior school/intern experience working through software development life-cycle from requirements, development, test and deployment using Agile, RAD and waterfall methods
  • Basic knowledge or prior school/intern experience in working in a team-based environment with programmers, engineers, and scientists.



Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Basic knowledge of IBM i product set
  • Prior internship or other working experience in SW Development
