Your Role and Responsibilities
w3 is seeking an experienced and highly skilled engineering manager to build and oversee a team of engineers responsible for development, maintenance and enhancements of features across our suite of intranet software. This role requires you be able to work across a number of mission critical applications including the w3 (intranet) homepage, iOS mobile application, website builder, as well as our webmaster operations team.
This position requires a hands-on leader with a solid technical background who can manage a team working with cutting-edge technologies, including Node.js, PostgreSQL, React, Vue.js, OpenShift as well as the HTTP protocol & DNS. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and secure operation of these critical systems while driving continuous improvement and innovation.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of developers specializing in web development, system architecture, and database management.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of w3 Publisher and intranet web proxy solutions, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, network engineers, and other IT stakeholders to align system goals with business objectives.
  • Set performance objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

System Management & Development:

  • Oversee the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of w3 Publisher and the intranet web proxy.
  • Ensure best practices in coding standards, security, testing, and documentation.
  • Drive the architecture, scalability, and performance optimization of systems utilizing Node.js for back-end, PostgreSQL & Cloudant for databases, and React/Vue.js for front-end solutions.
  • Ensure seamless integration between systems and other enterprise-level applications.

Technical Oversight & Innovation:

  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in web development, especially around the Node.js ecosystem, database management, and front-end frameworks.
  • Provide guidance on the use of web proxy solutions for optimal performance.
  • Innovate and suggest improvements in current systems and processes, ensuring scalability and futureproofing of web solutions.

Security & Compliance:

  • Ensure systems comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards for security and data privacy.
  • Maintain relevant web standards documentation for the internal web development community

Operations & Support:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues related to the enterprise website builder and intranet proxy.
  • Ensure high uptime and reliable service delivery through monitoring, maintenance, and backup procedures.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, runbooks, and training materials for internal use.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT management, leading technical teams, or similar roles.
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Node.js development and ecosystem.
  • PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
  • React and/or Vue.js front-end frameworks.
  • Graph
  • HTTP protocol, including HTTP/2 & caching
  • DNS configurations and management.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Master’s degree in IT Management or a related field.
  • Experience with enterprise-level CMS solutions.
  • Proven experience with web proxy solutions and internal networking.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of load balancing, caching solutions, and advanced networking protocols
