Your Role and Responsibilities
- Assess business and technical requirements to identify the most efficient cloud subscription models; reduce planning complexity and operational costs while improving service and response times
- Knowledge and skills for key cloud and hybrid-cloud features, networking, storage, backup, security, resiliency (HA/DR), and migration strategies for IBM Power Virtual Server
- Provide expert technical consultation and leadership in the analysis & design, planning, and implementation of IBM Cloud solutions using reference architectures and best practices.
- Understand and architect migration of on-premise IBM i and AIX workloads to the IBM Power Virtual Server environment
- Work with the Technical Sales team to gather customer requirements, create IBM Cloud architectures, detailed Cloud solution designs that include specifications, diagrams, models and presentation material
- Design compute, storage, network, security, backup/restore, and disaster recovery capabilities that meet requirements and optimize costs
- Design and enable network and storage-based replication between data centers for IBM i and AIX systems
- Establish and assist in the implementation of monitoring and management of the Cloud instances for availability, performance, and cost optimizations
- Architect and guide the implementation of IBM Cloud solutions using modern deployment and configuration tools and practices (e.g, Terraform, Ansible, scripting)
- Enable IBM Cloud managed services through configuration management, monitoring, and incident management using automation and integration
- Proficient in public cloud offerings and services specific to IBM Cloud and IBM Power Virtual Server
- Understanding of enterprise IT workloads to target and motivate migration of applications to the cloud
- Identify product improvements or new products by remaining current on industry trends, market activities, and competitors
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
- Enhances staff accomplishments and competence by planning delivery of solutions; answering technical and procedural questions for less experienced team members; teaching improved processes; mentoring team members
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM plus 6 – 12 years of related experience; minimum of 3 years of experience administering IBM Power systems, including IBM I and AIX OS and related operational technologies
- Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems architecture, virtualization, and storage concepts
- Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning
- Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures for Power i systems
- Experience implementing and managing Power HA solutions for system high availability and disaster recovery
- Experience managing the Hardware Management Console (HMC) for Power i systems
- Excellent IBM i and AIX troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent knowledge of IBM Power Systems and Administration
- Experience in installation and configuration of IBM POWER servers along with AIX/Linux OS
- Strong problem solving abilities
- Experience with clustering and high availability
- Knowledge of HMC & Novalink, KVM
- Good Exposure in the storage domain
