Your Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a research scientist to perform original research advancing the state of the art in plasma etch technology. The successful candidate will be part of an exploratory research team on patterning for leading-edge devices and systems, participate alongside a global team of researchers on multiple projects, publish in top-tier conferences and contribute to pushing the frontier of information technology through IBM internal and external engagements.

The candidate will join the Advanced Plasma Processing Group and will be responsible for maintaining the critical tool set in etch, interfacing with tool and material suppliers, and helping develop etch processes and modules. This job requires both a high degree of autonomy and the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced research and development environment, with key deliverables and milestones planned throughout the year. The ideal candidate would have a graduate degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electrical engineering or a related engineering program and would have several years of experience in semiconductor device fabrication.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in science or engineering program with several years of practical experience in semiconductor fab environment
  • PhD degree in semiconductor-related science or engineering program


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • The ideal candidate would have a graduate degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electrical engineering or a related engineering program and would have several years of experience in semiconductor device fabrication.

The compensation range for this position is based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
