Metrology Engineer
Introduction
IBM’s Strategic Research groups at Albany Nanotech are currently seeking engineers in the area of
semiconductor metrology.
The hired candidate will have experience in materials science, physics, metrology, and/or quality
assurance. The candidate must understand the fundamental principles of semiconductor processing and
dimensional/property characterization. The candidate will define the path for leading methodologies from
concept through implementation. The hired candidate must also possess strong analytical and design-of-
experiment knowledge, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to articulate
difficult concepts to an audience with diverse technical backgrounds.

Your Role and Responsibilities
Some of the job responsibilities include the development of measurement models; characterization of
advanced structures through means such as optical metrology, X-Ray metrology, electron microscopy,
and/or hybrid metrologies; and analysis of measurement performance, stability, and sources of
anomalies. The position requires interaction with cross-functional and multi-company working teams that
include engineers engaged in unit process development, process integration, metrology, masks,
design/layout, materials and process development, and computational technology. The position may
entail equipment ownership, engagement with vendor companies, and operations support.
The ideal candidate will have experience engaging interdisciplinary teams to anticipate and develop high
quality measurements in the domains of patterning process control and materials characterization. The
ideal candidate will also have experience generating technical documentation to share learning, improve
training procedures, and propagate best practices. A track record of innovation in business processes,
publication in industry of research and development work, and/or implementation of baseline
improvement methods (wSPC, Lean SixSigma, etc) are additional valuable qualities, but not required.
Generation of Intellectual Property for IBM and protection of it through the patenting process are also
expected.
