Design Operations (DesignOps) is a practice that applies Operations expertise to Design organizations. The goal of DesignOps is to reduce friction for designers and increase the impact of design. DesignOps practitioners enable and support designers so they can dedicate more of their energy to delivering human-centered outcomes for our clients.
As an experienced manager, you will work closely with Design leadership for the Sustainability Software team to tackle many of the key aspects of DesignOps for the full design team. You will also work closely with other DesignOps managers and practitioners across the Software organization to manage and create enablement processes for designers at IBM.
The design team you’ll be joining is part of the worldwide organization for Sustainability Software – a part of IBM that design solutions that enable businesses to transform and manage more sustainable enterprise operations and supply chains through intelligent AI-driven insights and execution.
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, a high degree of professionalism, independent judgment, organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and flexibility as demands and priorities change.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Working with leaders to optimize the structure and function of the design organization
- Documenting and sharing the organizational structure of the design team
- Creating and maintaining automated reports and dashboards of data about the design team (skills, awards, education, etc.)
- Standardizing designer tooling, submitting financial requests, collaborating on financial and hiring planning & processes
- Creating consistent hiring and interviewing practices that allows for objective assessment of candidates
- Creating consistent onboarding documentation and education for new hires as well as those transitioning to new product domains
- Creating a process for regularly assessing team skills to understand strength and growth opportunities
- Drive the engagement and culture of the team through knowledge sharing, workshops, formal communication channels or meetings, Social and educational events, etc.
- Creating a positive team environment and open communication to address team health and morale
- Elevating craft and quality of the designers and researchers in the organization
- Tracking recommendations and improvements over time
- Fostering collaboration across the design team, multiple disciplines, and cross-functional teams
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Required Professional Experience
- 3+ years of people management experience
- 5+ years of experience managing talent development programs and a proven record of developing and executing related strategy
- 5+ years of experience in collecting data and developing action plans
- 5+ years of interacting with team members and stakeholders to identify and resolve needs
- Experience adapting plans and direction based on metrics and feedback
- Proficiency using project management tools, presentation tools, metrics tracking and reporting, development tools, and communication tools
- Strong communication skills (individual, groups, written, and presentations)
- Passion for helping individuals and teams to be engaged and perform at their best
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Preferred Professional Experience
- 5+ years of demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity while operating in a fast-paced environment.
- 5+ years experience in Design/User Research Management
- 5+ years of implementing project plans and tracking progress and deliverables
- Program Management experience
